I’ve put up
links to your home pages at the end of the session eight section of details
page of the syllabus at:
http://mason.gmu.edu/~kthomps4/209-f04/details.htm#session8 (notice the
target or bookmark notation at the end of the URL--the page name plus
#session8). You can also find this page at:

This Tuesday and Thursday
(November 16th and 18th) are the last class meetings for Engl 209 section 001. I’m sorry that we won’t
be able to work together during class hours after the 18th but Sara Kistler and
I will still be available the following week during our office hours Tuesday
(November 23rd) for any last minute revisions to your home and course pages. I will do the final
grading starting Friday of next week (November 26th).
The draft you put up this week will play an important part of your assignment grade and it’s essential that everything is finished and ready for critique Thursday, November 18th. Class on November 16th will be a workshop and Sara and I will be available to help you with any problems you are having.
You will be required to show your pages to the rest of the class Thursday of this week. If anyone is ready at the end of class on Tuesday, you can show your pages then. Your participation in the critique will be an important part of the participation component of your final grade. Making constructive comments and suggestions during critique is essential because you can often see things in other people’s work that you don’t notice in your own.
We will be looking for a mix of functionality (how easy is it to read the pages and find information; how quickly they load) as well as creativity and good design. You will need a home page with a link to your 209 page. On that page you will need navigation to your home page and links to your assignments for 209, all clearly labeled as assignments.
The assignments for your 209 page are as follows:
The reason we are requiring three versions of your final project is to see how your work has developed over the course of the class. Also note that if you are an advanced AVT or IT major, you are required to test the XHTML compliance of your pages. See http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/REC-xhtml1-20020801/ for an explanation of the issue and http://validator.w3.org for a form where you enter your URL to test the compliance of your pages.
As far as your final project, you will need to have at least three relevant informational links, two images and/or media files, navigation to your other 209 pages, and some form of internal organization--akin to a table of contents--using bookmarks or targets. Above all, don’t just decorate your paper. Your enhancements should contribute to the argument or point you are making.
We look forward to working with you this week. If you are looking for models for inspiration (or for things to avoid) you should look at your fellow students pages as well as the pages for other sections of the class at the following URLs:
