It was Gandhi that said, “Be the change that you want to see in the world.” And it was the annoying man that came screaming through my radio when my alarm went off a few weeks ago that said, “The current generation in college is trouble, they are sending the world to hell, they are apathetic, self centered, and unmotivated. These people are lazy, every one of them is constantly under the influence of some drug, and it is these people that will be running our government soon and I have a feeling that they will run it into the ground.” And while I don’t generally like my alarm clock to begin with, that morning I liked it even less because you know what? I look at the world today, my generation, and I wonder what he is seeing. Because what I see is different. Yes, there are some of us that have not decided to step outside the box and think for themselves; these are the same people that regurgitate what they are told because they think they should do. Yes, there are members of my generation that think that spending every waking moment walking around like a drunken fool is something that is necessary. But there are also a lot of us who work very hard, those of us who have dreams and goals. There are people in this generation that hope for change, want to see change, and are willing to work to help facilitate this change. So I began this project thinking about how I want to make a change, and then I realized that that was not enough, I needed to look at those around me and see what they are doing to make a difference or how we would are are a lot of us who have dreams and goals, people that want to see a change and help facilitate this change. So I decided to think about how I want to make a change, what I wanted to do to make a difference in world around me. But then I realized that while what I want to do is all fine and dandy but what is more important is to show that there are people in my generation that want to change things.
For this project I decided to interview ten people on the George Mason, Fairfax campus (one of them being myself) and ask them what they are doing now (if anything) to make a difference and what they want to do in the future (if anything) to make a difference. I also took down their names, ages, and where they are from. From there I took a picture of them. Each of these was made into a youtube video because it takes up less memory.
