One of the problems seen with ordering prescriptions online is that the patient has, in many cases, not been seen by a doctor and therefore does not know if the prescription is right for the patient. The person ordering these prescriptions online may also lie about one of the answers on the questionnaire. These prescriptions may also be filled illegally by pharmacists. MSNBC cites a recent example of a pharmacy that may be charged $90 million for filling illegal prescriptions. A major problem with prosecuting the online pharmacies is that they are online one day and gone the next so it takes a while to track them down.

Others argue that ordering prescriptions online allows patients who are too embarrassed to see a doctor to get the medication they need. Ordering the prescription online also enables the patient to find the prescriptions they need at a cheaper price. Many sites offer generic brands that are cheaper than the name brand.
