The New Amateur Journalists Weigh In
In an article entitled "The New Amateur Journalists Weigh In", author Matt Welch discusses the supreme impact blogging has made on mainstream media. Welch described how back in 1999, blogging communities (such as LiveJournal, Blogger, and Vox) were all struggling to get people to register. However, now in 2007, almost every person has a blog or is a part of a web community (such as Myspace or Facebook). Blogging has also made people more aware of all the news that is happening in the world more than the influence of the mainstream media. Mike Welch also explains that bloggers have contributed particular four things to journalism: "1) personality, 2) eyewitness testimony, 3) editorial filtering, & 4) uncounted gigabytes of new knowledge."
