Apocalypto!!!

Pretty awesome movie all in all. It was very very bloody and a number of people and animals were speared, stabbed, and generally dismembered. The ending was somewhat dissapointing, but if all you really want is action, it's pretty good for that.

I kind of created an idea that i'm fielding with my friends. Generally, the western world focused on the relationship between man and God in past time periods. We interacted with other people, but that interaction was governed by commandments by God. After the "death of God" as it has been called, we entered the modern era and there was a God-shaped hole left inside us. We tried to fill it first with our own egotism and philosopy, but that does not lead to any satisfaction. Empiricism is cold and unfriendly to a sad spirit. There is again the illusion that we are interacting intellectually with others, but it is only done to feed our egos. We utilize a Darwinian style of thinking, where our ideas compete with one another in order to gain dominance. This is similar to natural selection and competing, evolving species of organisms. Instead of competing we should try to actively engage one another in discourse and in that way connect with other individuals. Two people with opposing viewpoints at a fundimental level, can never agree, but they can engage in a meaningful discourse. Why can that discourse and interconnection not become the new morality? Why must we pursue a Darwinian strategy of adversarial ideas and opinions?

Yeah I know it's pretty rough around the edges, but I'm workin on it.

Crazy coupla days!

First off, Thanksgiving, awesome! My uncle and a cousin stopped in for the dinner and we all went and saw 007 Casino Royale the next day (just got back in fact). Tomorrow my half-sisters will be stopping by for a grand lunch-type-thing....

Otherwise I have this maliciously dated paper (due the day after thanksgiving weekend) to finish and I'm really moving through it slowly...about 3 of 7 pages....single spaced! I'll get it done, I've still got like 2 days.

Somehow I found time to buy my first suit today, charcole gray, and a pair of shoes to go with it. It looks nice i think and will be ready for me to pick up before i go back to mason (probably Saturday evening). Also, my job at Orvis WILL be waiting for me when I get back (or at least I have been told).

Finally, Kate, my awesome girlfriend, is also home, knitting me a scarf, and generally keeping me company (as i can't get away from my house to see people due to family and paper). She unfortunately lives in Ohio, but she also, fortunately, has a computer and can send me text, voice, and video messages.

I do miss her and everybody else though and I can't wait to get back to school. I guess I'm one of those crazy kids who really likes living at Mason (These parentheses have intentionally been left blank).

Nasty weather

Just returned from dropping Kate off at the Buddhist temple. The weather is nasty, raining, cold, and windy, the triple threat. As we're walking to my car, her sandle thong breaks and we have to go all the way across campus (her without shoes) and then drive over to the park and get an extra pair of shoes. We were late too. :(

Hopefully it will be a good experience for her though. I wish finding my own place in this world of spirituality could be as easy as finding a new institution.

Other than that, back to my research paper!

Liberty University has an...INTERESTING code of conduct...

A list of all thing things not allowed at Liberty...there is a curfew, then fines of $10-$500 for "improper personal contact (beyond hand-holding)," "Improper social behavior," "Possession and/or use of tobacco," "Attendance at, possession or viewing of, an "R," "NC-17" or "X"-rated movie," and of course "Abortion."

Enjoying myself, despite the work...

I've got all kinds of crazy work and my stuff is mostly due on monday/tuesday. This is on top of the ever-present research papers for the term. It's so hard to write about things I have no interest in!

Socially, I have found new life and feel like I'm where I want to be. APO is also going well and Initiations are coming up, so the pledges are finally finishing their requirements. Good times all around.

Besides that, got lots more stuff to do and people to see...later!

What a day for a daydream....

This week has been fun. I've been out to dinner at Fuds and Ruby Tuesdays (both of which were awesome APO fellowships), while doing Halloween stuff and generally having a good time. My classes are starting to creep up on my and next week is gonna be a lot of stuff...not looking forward to that at all!

I finally feel I'm back to normal again and I can focus once more on the stuff that matters to me, school and otherwise. Going to noodles today, then a couple meetings, followed by pledge stuff. Tomorrow I have the Altzheimer's Walk and then a free evening with which to write papers and do other work. Also class scheduling approached and I fear I'm going to have almost as crazy a lineup as this semester (same number of courses, but one's chorus and technically I'll have one less credit hour).

Lastly, election day is coming (though i'm absentee already), Wichita State BBall Game is coming, initiations is coming, and my CDs just came in the mail! (yeah, it's REO Speedwagon, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Kansas.....i like it, shut up!)

Till my next happy post!

Halloween was weird...

Last night was pretty crazy. Witch watch went great and we had a lot of fun walking around amongst the trick-or-treaters was fun and a lot of the people we saw were very appreciative. Also, it seems that the frosh Scholars raised over 2 grand for children getting an extra year of school in Africa. After that I came back to campus (instead of going to an APO fellowship) to see some people and for some reason lots of nastyness ensued...

Other than that, I don't have too much going on...not sure whether I am going to go to a fellowship tonight for monatary and social reasons...Fudruckers is expensive!

Here's hope that everybody comes out of the madness that seemed to persist in the late hours of all hallow's eve....
