Last few days recap

Hey there, I'm a little behind on my blogging but I've been BUSY all the time!

Basically, my roommate, Hilary, some scholars, and other random stuff have been keeping me occupied all day so I never remember to blog. My classes seem pretty good so far. The religion class will probably be pretty good, the history class looks tollerable (but only because of the topic, teenagers), the physics class could be sweet. Oh, and botany is starting right now....g2g!

Finally Unpacked....

The last few days have been as crazy as I expected. I moved myself in, helped move in the freshy scholars, took 6 hours of training for scholar mentoring, had a great meeting to plan out this year's ASM activities, and now I'm finally unpacking my room. Whew!

Aside from all that, I have finally reuinted with Hilary and we've been having a good time hangin out witht he scholars.

Finally, classes start Monday....grar

From home to school....

It's surprising and a bit ironic that I've moved out of my house, where I did next to nothing but pack, watch tv, do some housekeeping things, and be alone, and moved into my new dorm at school, where I am currently sitting alone, blogging, unpacking, and generally being bored. After the drive, I got moved in and got all my computer stuff set up. I also got my books and met up with a classmate for dinner. Beyond that I've seen pretty much nobody else, despite a couple attempts.

I'm wondering how this blog and site will be different now that I am living the college life again. I hope I will have enough time or remember often enough to keep the blog recent. I kind of like the idea of daily dumping some of my own personality, interests, and opinions onto the web. I am getting the occasional hit from google searches now, but generally I think the searchers are just getting here because of phrases I've used and not because I have the content they want. I do think I did link somebody through to a site they were looking for so I'm glad for that.

Hmm, what else... I added some snazzy banners to the sides of this blog and the rib review. They were made with a Web 2.0 logo maker (which can be found if you just google it or something...too lazy to find the link again).

Tommorrow I'm gonna get some early morning training from the Scholars' about mentoring. Good night till then.

Wow, just, wow....

I mean I guess I knew the show had been around a while, but they seem to have a limitless list of stories to tell and adventures to go on (very similar to the X-files model where they have a main story-line and side stories they can jump in and out of). Also, after the boring slowness of the first season, the characters have become very dynamic and interesting. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the Digg article I posted below. If you're actually interested in the show, please click through on the "read more" link which goes to the full article. What the little blurb doesn't say is that they're gonna be ending it with a final 10 episodes in March of next year. Blah!

Well anyway, here's a little synopsis of my exploits today. I started the packing/loading process for moving into Mason (Commonwealth 3rd!). Also, I went out to buy some cable for my TV and low and behold the local Radio Shack just vanished and a karate studio cropped up in its place. I guess I'll have to wait till I get to school to get that cable. Hmm, what else. Oh yeah, well after that I went to Ukrops' and when I was done getting food, I dropped all my change into a Coinstar machine (it took a while) and got back over $60. That's pretty rediculous!

Anyway, if you do read this blog (and I know that there really aren't any regular readers yet) or at least are reading it now, feel free to drop a little comment for me on any of the posts. It'd just be good to know that somebody's out there.

Stargate SG-1 Cancelled !!!

The future of Stargate is in question today, as SCI FI Channel has cancelled the long-running Stargate SG-1, Multichannel News reported today and a GateWorld source has confirmed. The news regrettably follows the airing of the show's milestone two-hundredth episode on Friday.

Let's make SoaP!

Yeah, I think I'm gonna use this site to talk a little more about Snakes on a Plane. First off, I think this is gonna be the new Rocky Horror Picture Show type movie....a cult film if you will. There's already a site that's been put together to create a fan participation script like Rocky Horror does. Of course I like Snakes a little better because it's quite a bit more heterosexual and appeals to the scaryness of snakes instead of vampires (or whatever those guys were supposed to be...sorry I only saw it once). Here's the site. I hope our local theator at college will take up this new cult film with the same love that it does Rocky Horror.

Hmm, what else....well like I said I'm all alone here. I barely got out of the house at all today. Going to Ukrops' and walking the dog doesn't really count so much though. Can't wait till Tuesday when I finally get to go back to Mason! Yee Haw.

Finally, heard a good podcast today from Science Friday. Two pretty experienced physicists were interviewed about the seemingly faltering path of string theory. Personally, I think it's a little too soon to be crying foul and complaining that there have been no results yet. Let's at least wait until the LHC has been up and running for a year before questioning the entire theory. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be trying other things and other theories, but let's give it some more time.

That's all I got until I get bored and think of something else to write!

It's been a while...let's fix that...

Well, first off...Snakes on a Plane (SoaP).....awesome! What more needs to be said...it's like Star Wars in that it needs to be seen by every person alive....even if you'd hate it.

Next up....I'm basically alone until Tuesday, when I move in to my new suite at Mason. Man, I wish I was less bored....Dash (ma dog) is keeping me company.

I didn't do a rating of a Lone Star Steakhouse that I went to recently.....but if I had I'm sure the grade wouldn't have been above a D....I'm totally not kidding. I'd even consider it a good benchmark for an F. Check the Rib Review if you're confused at this point.

Other than that, I'm getting into more video podcasts, regular podcasts, and other random internet things to keep myself occupied.

Snakes on a Friday....

Hey, guess what....everybody's favorite semi-poisonous, totally airborne thriller is coming on Friday....SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing more to say about that other than I bet it will be terrible and I hope to see it soon!

Hmmm, what else....well I got up at like 11 today and then showered around 2....yeah pretty busy day for me on the whole....:P I did have to go to work for a few hours but other than that it was pretty low key...

Oh and if you've not heard of it, try out Waiterrant.net, it's this awesome blog about a waiter and his random adventures in his restaurant. It's pretty funny and I haven't found too many other blogs I like yet, so I'll plug it.

Oh and here's another big announcement.....Hilary and I have been dating for 6 monthes now, as of August 14th, Today. Love ya baby!

Chariots of Lameness

I forgot to mention that last night I saw Chariots of Fire, a movie about early Olympic runners from Brittain. Suffice to say it was pretty terrible. While the story could have been compelling, the cinematography was slow and confusing and the actors didn't make their emotions clear to the audience. Also, while there was a clear presence of religious tension, it wasn't clear what kind of commentary that tension was supposed to make. Instead it just added confusion to an already bland, slow, and anti-climactic story.

Otherwise I've just been doing a little bit of updating to the site and FINALLY got the sitemap on the blogs to look like the other ones. As I said earlier I plan on getting rid of the picture and news pages and I can't figure out what to do with the spaces.

Slinky or Pleonasm....

Well i think I need to change my name to something cooler than "My Blog Page" so it's either "Functional Pleonasm" or the current working title "Quadraphonic Slinky." The first is an oxymoron (look up the definition yourself :P) and the latter is the temporary name of my quartet back in the day.....

Anyway, that's all I got....hopefully the new name change won't cause technical problems....

Frontpage updates and personal updates....

Well if you visit the front page you'll see some changes.....just wanted to make it look better and much easier to edit....before the CSS and stuff was a nightmare. I used some stuff from these guys (awesome site for CSS layouts) and did a little of my own stuff to promote my blogs. I don't know how often my front page gets visited but hey, it's just for fun and learning anyway.

I'm probably gonna get rid of the news page and the picture page....just too hard to update and sort of unnecessary.....i plan to add a link to my picture gallery on the google/picasa thing.....

Other than that, please email me suggestions or IM me.

I'm basically done with the work except for three days next week....I have the whole weekend off, too.

Hilary and I have a "monthaversary" coming up on the 14th....the 6th I believe.....no I didn't forget dear....:P

Edit: oh and i finally got around to getting a new keyboard for the laptop and it was FREE and arrived the day after i called....AWESOMENESS

Lots of moving....

Well Hilary just moved to her house.

Soon she'll be moving to her new room off of Mason.

An RA I know just moved in.

Soon I will move in.

A random guy at karate will move in to Richmond (from GA).

And then i guess everybody else will move too.

Wow, a lot of moving.....

Other than that, I think I'm only working like 4 more days at Orvis and then I'm done. It was a pretty good place to work, but I think I'm still liking the whole college lifestyle more. I'll probably come back for holiday work though.

Well that's about all the fun stuff going on here.....can't wait for the weekend......

Awesome Images (in SPACE!)

Yeah, they pretty much speak for themeselves. They're supposed to be like those inspirational posters we all saw in high school.....

Awesome stuff if you like this great show. Found on this site.

Hilary came for two days....YAY!

Appointment, responsibility, etc......

I have finally heard back and I am now going to officially be the Seargent at Arms for the Alpha Delta Delta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega. Pretty awesome. Very excited.

Also I have decided to grab the reigns on a project to change the schedule and logistics of one of my lodge's regular events. Since we don't change how we do things very often, it can be a bit taxing to answer many emails with questions about every possible detail. I can't wait for the meeting when everyone will have a chance to voice all of their concerns together.

Work was weird today....I had to go out and buy bubble wrap and then wrap a canoe in it. Weird, I know....

Finally, tomorrow Hilary is comin to town for 2 days! Hurray!

Back from NOAC and so much to say!

Well NOAC 06 was awesome and I suggest anyone interested go to their frequently updated site (or at least it was updated DURING the event). On top of that, I now have a million billion ideas to make the lodge better. Now to be honest, last time I got all these great ideas from NOAC training and people I met there. This time, the people that I went with from my lodge provided the most insight and the other factors just helped me focus those ideas.

Here are some of the big things that I got to do:
  • I met the National Chief of the OA (a youth)

  • Had lunch with a National Committee (of the OA) member

  • Listened to speeches and discussions by the most important people in both OA and Scouting

  • Took part in a Leadership Symposium

  • Had some obligatory Brotherhood training

  • Visited TOAP, the OA Museum, the Expo (called "The Experience" this year), and the Founders Day Festival

  • I went to all the shows, which were awesome

  • I patch traded like it was going out of style every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, as an interesting sidenote, my half-sister Jenny is coming to visit us today....off to do that!
