where english & legal studies shake hands

Semester: Fall 2014

Instructor: Laura Walker

GOVT 301 introduces the role of the Supreme Court and paramount cases that shaped the courts. Students become familiar with Justices and court operations. The course is designed for students who have a Legal Studies concentration or minor. The course is geared toward students who have an interest in law school, or working in the courts. GOVT 301 is more reading intensive than writing.

Paper Assignment
Burwell v. Hobby Lobby Paper

There was only one paper required in the course. The paper required students to understand the majority and dissenting opinion in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. It was stressed greatly, that the paper should not be a summary of the case, but an analysis on the opinions and where quality of judicial decision-making was present. The paper was formatted and cited a bit differently than regular APA style, but it was required by Dr. Walker. An electronic copy was submitted on Blackboard, and a paper copy was submitted in class.
