ENGH 388 - Professional Technical Writing
Instructor: Jennifer Messier

ENGH 388 introduces students to technical writing in the workplace. This course refines sentence structure and learning how to convey concise ideas. Students learn the fundamentals on composing a proposal, resume, cover letter, email and status reports on short and long term projects. This course helps students prepare for a professional career while enhancing their collaboration skills. There was a major project assigned and all students were expected to complete in groups of four to six.

Paper Assignment
Service Learning Unit: NVYS

The major writing assignment was a service learning project for a company or organization of the students choice with their group. My group chose to help New Vision Youth Services, Inc. a non-profit organization that seeks to help at risk foster care youth who age out of foster homes. NVYS is located in Chesapeake, VA and currently has volunteers and interns advocating; however, the organization was in need of a new volunteer manual. My group implemented a new design and information in the manual that will be used by NVYS Summer 2015.
