I found my passion for video games and education when I was 13 years old.
My brother's RTS game Starcraft and its accompanying Scenario Editor introduced
me to Computer Science and inspired me to buy my first programming book,
Computer Programming for Teens. My collection of books and personal game projects
has grown since my teens, and my strongest motivation has been 'having fun.' In making and playing
games, I have learned much more about the world. Sid Meier's Civilization has let me relive History, saving
Zelda has moraled genuine courage and honor, and Starcraft has opened my eyes to Math and Computer Science.
Video games have helped to shape where I am today. My love for World History, Math,
Computer Science, and Education has only been strengthened through video games, and I
have developed a stronger understanding of each. I plan to research Games for Education
as a graduate student in the years to come. I am curious as to how games communicate ideas
and knowledge and how they can affect our self-image. My research and graduate education
are the first stepping stones in becoming a Professor of Computer Science, and with my degree,
I aim to inspire others and pass on the knowledge that I discover.
