INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESUME, COVER LETTER AND REFERENCES


COVER LETTER and REFERENCE SHEET

  1. Complete the resume tutor found at: www.quintcareers.com/cover_letter_tutorial.html
  2. Use tutorial advice as needed to create a strong cover letter no more than one page in length using default margins and 12-point type.
  3. Create a reference sheet in a separate file.

RESUME

  1. Complete all six steps of the Resume Tutor found at: www1.umn.edu/ohr/ecep/resume
  2. Read throught the Frequently Asked Questions first, then click on the six buttons in the left-side toolbar to access the six sections of the tutorial.
  3. For each page, answer the questions. Type in your FULL NAME under "Get Your Personalized Workbook Page" in Sections 1, 3, 4 and 5. (Please note that each sub-section, A-H, of Section 3, has its own workbook page.)
  4. Copy and paste each workbook page into the SAME Word file, so that each forms a separate page in that file. The file should be 11 pages in all.
  5. Send this Workbook file to the instructor. not to WebCT
  6. Complete your resume and circulate it to the members of your writing group during the week of 3/7-11/05. Copy and paste their evaluation forms into one file so that each forms a separate page in that file, and send to the instructor.
  7. Make any revisions necessary before submitting the final version of your resume in its own file by midnight 3/11/05.

SUMMARY OF FILES TO BE SUBMITTED

  1. Workbook File (11 page)
  2. Cover letter file (1 page)
  3. Reference sheet file (1 page)
  4. Resume evaluation file from group members (1 page for each group member)
  5. Resume file (1 page unless extremely senior worker in the field, in which case 2 pages)
