George Mason University’s “Launch Pad,” Fairfax, Va.
On-Air Talent/Blog editor, February 2007-Present
• “Launch Pad” is George Mason University’s weekly events Podcast, a program that reaches all three campuses and more than 18,000 students. I was on the air and helped maintain the on-line blog deciding which events would be covered on the program.
ToyToons.com, St. Louis, Mo.
Reporter, November 2005-February 2006
• ToyToons.com is a website dedicated to news about designer art toys, a new craze that has urban hipsters and trendy youth collecting all sorts of unique plastic figures. This job required me to work fully on-line from Fairfax, Virginia while using communications software like Skype to maintain contact with other editors in St. Louis, Missouri and Fredericksburg, Virginia. I used Java/HTML-based Internet tools to update the website, and in the process obtained a good grasp of basic HTML skills. I also maintained the photo galleries and made sure the news from our sponsors was a top priority. In 2006 I attended the industry-only New York Toy Fair as a press member, where I took my own photos, met with designers, companies, and conducted on-the-spot interviews for stories I later wrote myself.
MHz Networks, Falls Church, Va.
On-Air Intern, September 2002-January 2003
• As part of the show “open.tv” I learned about various software programs like Dreamweaver and MS Access and wrote brief stories explaining how they work aimed at a middle-school aged demographic. In addition I wrote video game reviews, researched information for show segments, interviewed celebrities, attended on-location shoots for “man-on-the-street interviews,” and later had my own trivia-show styled segment called “Beat Jian.”
