Website
Evaluation

The two sites that I am
evaluating are Chapter 1: The Internet and Multimedia and
Internetworking Multimedia. Both of these sites relate to my NCC
major of Connection to the Internet and Multimedia Studies. If
someone wants to get a better understanding about how the internet and
multimedia relates to the rest of the world, they would prefer the
Chapter 1: The Internet and Multimedia site. If you want to
find definitions of internet and multimedia terms, you would go to the
Internetworking Multimedia site. Site 1 provides the reader
statistics of multimedia and also other links that helps with the
reader's knowledge about the internet and multimedia. According
to the layout of all the links on site 2, a visitor would expect to
find clear and depth definitions of internetworking multimedia
terms. The information that the visitor would expect to find from
both sites is provided. The content is appropriate for the
intended audience on site 1. The main page and the links from the
main page do indeed give a sense of understanding of the internet and
multimedia. The content for site 2 is appropriate for the visitor
that is looking for definitions of multimedia terms. The
information on site 1 is easy to find but with site 2, there is alot of
links that the visitor would have to scroll through all of the links to
find a definition of a multimedia term. The language is
appropriate for both sites when it comes to their intended
audiences. All that the visitor has to know to be able to use the
site is how to find information through the links that are provided on
each site. Kevin Savetz, Neil Randall, and Yves Lepage posted the
information on site 1, and Jon Crowcroft, Mark Handley, and Ian Wakeman
posted the information on site 2. I do trust the people that
posted the information on the first site because all of the authors
have published books about something related to the internet and
multimedia, and I also trust the authors of the second site because two
of them are actually professors in the field of computers and
multimedia. Both of the information is better old. Site 1
was published in 1996 and site 2 was published in 1998. The
graphics for site 1 are appropriate for the site. They put
graphics that relate to certain paragraphs on the site. Site 2
has no graphics which makes these site not as good as site 1.
The bad site needs much
improvement in its attempt to attract visitor to its site. I
would improve this site by adding graphics that relate to
internetworking multimedia and I would make sure that there are not a
ton of links that the visitor would have to look for. Also, I
would add some more colors to the site that would grab the interest of
someone who is visiting the site. The main thing I would do would
try or attempt to condense the information into a reasonable number of
links so that the visitor would not have to scroll down as much in
order to receive information.
The good site does not need much
improvement but if I were to improve the website I would add more
exciting, exotic colors to the site and remove the links from the
bottom of the page and put the links on the top. By adding
exciting colors the visitor will not be bored with just the typical
white background and black letters and also, by putting the links on
the top, the visitor will not have to scroll all the way down to find
out about other information that the site provides.
The NCC competencies that this
assignment lets me practice are communication and information
technology. Usually, when people see communication they think of
actually speaking or talking to someone, but when I say communication
relating to this assignment, I am talking about the authors of both
sites communicating to me about their knowledge about internet and
multimedia. The information technology side on these sites are
obvious. Both sites relate to information technology. The
internet and multimedia go hand-in-hand with information
technology. The site "Chapter 1: The Internet and
Multimedia" provides the use of information technology to people around
the world while the site "Internetworking Multimedia" provides depth
definitions of multimedia terms which also relates to the competency of
information technology.
