FTIR
First scan the background
1) Press the button Backg.
2) Press Scan. Put number of scan 4. By default number of scan is 4.
3) To change number of scans press Monitor1-1, Monitor2-4, Monitor3-16 etc.
4) Press Scan again. It will give you Infra of background.
Preparing the sample
1) Sample holder is kept in the black box.
2) Clean plates with acetone. (Salt plates)
3) Put half drop of sample (mineral oil) in one plate. Slide around the sample with the other plate.
4) Put the plates in the holder.
5) Slide the holder into the slot of the FTIR.
6) Press x.
7) Press Scan. Put number of scans (#4) as before. It will give you Infrared absorption for oil.
To rescale
1) Press Shift-rescale to rescale vertical scales (from 0-100).
2) Press Shift-Rearrange to rescale horizontal scales (from 4000-0).
Cleaning of the plates
1) Clean the salt plates with acetone.
2) Put it back in the desiccate.
3) When the desiccates are discolored replace them with new ones or dry it in the oven over night.
