Automated pH Titration


Setting up the computer:
1) Double click on the Excelerator 2003 desktop icon that appears on the onscreen desktop of the computer.
The start up screen for excelerator will appear. It will have three
icons.
· Connect & Go
· Open Experiment
· Create Experiment
2) Click the Create experiment button.
· Double click on pH-FastGlass under Probes. It will appear under Experiment Configuration.
· Double click on pH-FastGlass under Experiment Configuration. You can edit the probe configuration here.
Location of the probe: A1. You do not have to calibrate.
Don’t worry about any other values. Those should be in their default values. Then press OK.
3) Click on the Edit Clock button to open the Experiment Clock
dialog.
· Set sample rate: 1 sample per second.
· Experiment duration: 300 seconds
· Measurement type: Elapsed time
· Then press OK
Preparing the sample
5) Prepare your unknown.
· Mix 5ml unknown + 25 ml dionized water in a beaker.
6) Select appropriate titrant.
7) Clamp the probe and put it in the beaker with your unknown sample. Put a stirring magnet in the beaker. Start stirring the sample in stirrer.
8) Put one hose of the pump (left one) in the beaker with sample and the other hose in the beaker with titrant.
9) Start the pump. Press the arrow button which is in the left at the same time you press green "Go" button experiment in the computer.
10) Titrant will flow to the beaker through the hose and mix with the unknown.
11) You will see the pH vs. time graph in the computer.
