There are still problems for e-commerce providers to overcome in order to further develop and increase their profits. Most of the people are still doubting the level of security because of identity theft, credit card fraud, and information selling to third parties. Some people still will not use their credit cards over the Internet. Some people fear to give out social security number and some private information. To increase the level of security in order to let consumers to shop with protection is necessary and mandatory. The other problem is access of web commerce, especially for poor households and some developing countries. To fully develop the business, it needs to cover different classes and globally. However, low penetration rates of Internet access in some sectors greatly reduces the potential for e-commerce.

"Never before has an industry grown to such a global economic stature in such a short time as has internet commerce." (Mark Sidman) The future of E-commerce looks so bright. According to a new study from the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce, e-commerce will become the industrial revolution of the 21st Century. Technology research firm Forrester predicts in 2005 that US e-commerce sales will nearly double in the next five years, growing from the current $172 billion total to $329 billion in 2010. Consumers are increasingly moving to on-line shopping because of the convenience of having no crowds to fight, no parking shortage, no salesman to deal with, and of course to save gas.

As USA Today reported, the next big thing in e-commerce may be t-commerce (television-commerce). It is e-commerce undertaken using digital television. Various t-commerce technologies are being tested. T-commerce is a new testing technology that when people watch their cable channel and want a product on the show, within a few clicks on their TV remote control, they are able to purchase it. However, T-commerce technology requires satellite TV or digital cable service just like e-commerce that needs internet service. It has yet to become as widespread as e-commerce on the Internet.
