  2. This appeared because I made Google my home page, so when I open Firefox, Google appears instead of a blank page. I can change this default setting so that another web page automatically loads when I launch Firefox, by changing the settings in Firefox Preferences (mac).

I can change the appearance of web pages within my browser by changing the preference of Firefox (mac). I would want to change the font size and type to something that is comfortable for me to view.

No, the number of hits are not consistent across search engines. I think that the age of the search engine plays a big part as well as the resources available to a given search engine. One reason that I would use a search engine that is not my current default would be if that search engine is down. Another would be if I didn't find what I was looking for.

No, I would not call Wolfram Alpha a search engine, I would call it an answering engine.

  1. The main difference between a metasite and a regular search site is that a metasite uses search results from other search sites. Regular search sites have their own algorithms and their own databases.
  2. I looked at Dogpile. It does not tell me how many search results come up, however there are a lot of pages of search results. The matches are organized very similar to the results that would come from Google.
  3. I looked at the first six results and none of them really helped. I would estimate that a small percentage of the search results actually relate to what I was looking for.
