Michelle Devlin
George Mason University Accelerated Masters Student 2019-Present
-
Michelle Devlin is a senior at George Mason University, where she majors in Biology with a concentration in
Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and will transition into the Accelerated M.S. program in Molecular Biology in
the Fall of 2019. During her time at Mason, Michelle co-founded the GMU Medical Chapter of Volunteers Around the World
in September of 2017 and has worked for the Department of Biology as a Microbial Lab Technician since May of 2018.
Michelle was selected as a STEM Learning Assistant for both the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters,
and has worked closely with department faculty in developing extensive educational materials for
courses in Cellular Biology and Genetics. Michelle will soon begin a Teaching Assistant position for Mason's
course in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, and is excited to expand upon her research in the
Grant Lab during the Fall of 2019.

Research
A recent addition to the Grant lab Michelle is just beginning her research. In the Spring
of 2019 Michelle explored the relationship between mitochondrial lesions and mitochondrial
gene expresssion in patients with IPF. Michelle is expanding on that work during her Masters
research. As the lab has already observed that there is a differential mitochondrial gene signature
in patients with rapid progression of IPF, Michelle is attempting to identify the transcription factor
network that may be dysregulated in this specific population. Through this, Michelle is hoping
to stratify patients into those with positive responses to therapy and those who are not responding.
