Brieann Sobieski is a biology major with a minor in kinesiology. After graduation Brieann plans to apply and matriculate to medical school to further explore her passion for clinical research. She is also a volunteer coach with Kids Enjoy Exercise Now (KEEN) which provides one-on-one fitness programming for children with disabilities. She has worked at Mason in various capacities including OSCAR scholar , learning assistant for Anatomy and Physiology, and Recovery Coordinator for drug and alcohol misuse at Student Support and Advocacy Center.

Brieann has been with Grant Lab since May 2018 studying non-invasive biomarkers and cellular senescence while creating an undergraduate RNA-sequencing course and developing the web tool TATA. Brieann's first project in the lab focused on the mitochondrial gene signature which we use to stratify our patient cohort. Her summer work transitioned to validating the RNA-sequencing data through real-time PCR. During the fall semester Brieann participated in the Biology Research semester where she identified a senescent signature in a population of fibroblasts isolated via a traditional procedure. She also collected data that demonstrated the methodology used in the our lab is selecting for a non-senescent population. We are currently applying these findings to a humanized model of IPF in mice.
