The Course: A major crisis of the twentieth century is the negative impact of man on biodiversity. In response to this crisis scientists and resource managers have developed a new interdisciplinary field to attack this problem to preserve biodiversity, Conservation Biology. Conservation Biology applies knowledge from botany, zoology, microbiology, ecology, systematics, population biology and economics and sociology in managing species. This course will provide the broad, integrative scientific introduction in the specific areas of biology being applied to the problems of understanding which organisms require assistance to survive and the science applied to successfully ensure their survival.
