These questions concern a student in the Bioinformatics/Computational
Biology Specialization
Please submit your answers via email.
1. What was the maximum number of credits that
this student could have transfered to GMU
from Rutgers, where she
had obtained an MS in Biotechnology?
2. During her first semester at GMU, the student took
9 credits. She signed up for 6 credits
the next semester. What
requirements, other than coursework, was she expected to
complete before the end of her
second semester?
3. This semester the student is registered for BIOL
699 and intends to graduate in
December. In order to do
so, what deadlines must she meet for submitting, presenting
and defending her thesis?
4. Let's say that the student did not finish writing
her thesis in time. What requirements
would she need to fufill in order
to graduate in May, 2002.
5. Now, what if the student decided that she didn't
want to write a thesis, opting to present
a project instead. What
would be her earliest graduation date? What regulations would
have be fulfilled to do so?
6. What if, in March, 2000, the student suffered a
terrible car accident that put her in the
hospital for six months so that
she could not complete the graduation requirements, then
fell into a chronic depression
that lasted until September, 2001. She tries to register
for classes at that time but 4-GMU
won' t permit it. Why? Does she have any recourse?
7. As it turns out, the Graduate Office discovers
that six years have elapsed since
the student was admitted
to the program. What now?
