Biography

Professor Manheim joined George Mason University after retiring from the U.S. Geological Survey, where his areas of expertise included marine geochemistry, offshore mineral resources, coastal hydrology, and environmental studies of estuarine and coastal sediments and waters. He has served on numerous interagency and scientific advisory panels, involving the NAS-NRC, NSF, U.S. EPA, MMS, NOAA, and state agencies. His interests include science and environmental regulatory policy, and scientific and technical innovation. The first two years at George Mason's School of Public Policy focused on the history of the U.S. Offshore oil industry, in cooperation with Professor Don E. Kash.
