Reflection: EDRS 821: Advanced Quantitative Methods in Education

I was nervous about taking advanced quantitative in a short summer session, however, I was confident that I could do well because I had just recently completed the regression and meta-analysis course. Statistics was still fresh in my mind. Although I was familiar with most of the analyses that was taught in the course, there was always something new to learn about statistics. For instance, I learned different approaches to conducting a MANOVA with syntax and assessing it through the emergence of different dimensions and nodes. Further, since I have completed statistics courses with two different professors, I realize that there are different “schools” of thought and understanding. What is considered acceptable by one professor may be interpreted differently by another professor. My experience with different professors teaching similar courses has helped me think differently about statistics in that it is not as concrete as it may seem. Additionally, experiencing the teaching styles of two professors has provided me with ideas of how I would like to teach difficult concepts.
