Professor Darnall's research interests are in the areas of corporate sustainability, environmental policy innovation, and the role of external stakeholders in the environmental governance of corporations and government. Her research has appeared (or is forthcoming) in Strategic Management Journal, Policy Sciences, Business & Society, Policy Studies Journal, Business Strategy and the Environment, and Review of Policy Research. In 2003 she received the Academy of Management's Organizations and Natural Environment Best Paper Award. Her research has received funding from the National Science Foundation, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (in Paris), and the US Environmental Protection Agency. Dr. Darnall joined George Mason University after four years at North Carolina State University. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Darnall was an economist for the US Forest Service and a researcher at Resources for the Future. She teaches courses in corporate environmental strategy, advanced topics in sustainable enterprise, stakeholder involvement in environmental decision-making, and applied environmental policy analysis.
