Dr. Cressey’s professional career began at the Smithsonian Institution where she worked for 20 years as a research assistant on the taxonomy and biogeography of parasitic copepods of marine fish. Along the way she discovered her love for undergraduate teaching and she began teaching full time at Mason in 1999. In 2001, she began to coordinate of Introductory Biology, and in 2002 she earned a D. A. in Community College Education from Mason.
Her primary responsibility at Mason is to coordinate the six lecture sections and 40-some lab sections for the Introductory Biology courses (BIOL 103/104). She also teaches Introduction to Animal Behavior (BIOL 472/473) and Ornithology (BIOL 537). Apart from teaching, her interests lie in animal, particularly bird, behavior, especially examining behavior from an evolutionary, adaptationist perspective. Dr. Cressey also assists with academic advising to biology majors and is interested in helping biology students develop excellent writing skills.
