Film Project
SPANISH 302
The Film project at the end of the semester consists of a written
group paper and an oral group presentation based on films related to the topics
covered during the semester. Each group
will consist of three students who will prepare a written (approximately 5
pages double-spaced) as well as an oral presentation to the class. Each group
will watch a different film based on one of the themes of one of the chapters
in the class textbook.
A) Written Group Paper
The information in the written group paper should be as complete
as possible. The group paper will
consist of a cover sheet, three individual sections and one group section. Please do not staple
these five sections together.
Cover
Sheet
The cover sheet should include the title of the project and all
the names of the students in the group, as well as the class and date.
Individual
Sections
The following sections should be done individually (each student will choose one), and should be from 300-350 words each:
1) Plot
summary: this should incorporate the names of characters, places and themes
where relevant.
2) Description
of the main characters (at least 4):
this should include a description of the character’s appearance,
behavior, and function in the movie as a whole (i.e. the hero, the victim, the
ideal woman, the villain, etc).
3) Description
of the central theme/s of the film: this
should be specific, citing supporting examples from the film.
Group
Section
The following section should be done as a group and should be between
300-350 words:
1) Compare
the film with a similar subject which we have discussed in class. Does the film relate specifically to any of
our readings? How? What are the
similarities and/or the differences?
B) Oral Group Presentation
The day of the presentation, the group must furnish the class and
the instructor a vocabulary list (alphabetically ordered) of 25 words and/or
concepts with definitions. The words have to be related to the subject for
which the video has been chosen.
The oral presentation should provide the class with only the most
important facts of the film, and show at least two clips from the film, in
order to give the class a clear idea of what the film was about. Each student
will present his/her section from the written group paper and the group will
then divide up the parts of the project that were completed as a team. The oral
presentation should last about twenty minutes. Students may use an outline on
an index card which they will turn in after their presentations. Students
cannot read from their written papers.
Grading for the
Project
Each student will receive two separate grades for the film
project:
1) The written papers (which includes the individual and group
sections). 70%
2) The oral performance of each student in the group presentation.
30%
The
film project is due the day of the student’s group presentation.
