The following section contains original scholarship on and a translation of the poetry of Veronica Gambāra (1485-1550) and Vittoria Colonna (1492-1547). It contains original scholarship on and primary documents (texts) for the poetry of Anne Cecil de Vere, Countess of Oxford (1556-88); Katherine Fowler Philips known as "Orinda" (1631-64); Anne Finch, Countess of Winchilsea (1661-1720) and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (1689-1762). It also contains a bibliography of sources for women who wrote poetry during the early modern period.
In this section, listed by source, are 45 texts, most of which are by Anne which have either gone unprinted; are printed in censored versions; have not been attributed to her partly due to her own desire for anonymity; or occur in books which have become rare and were unknown to Myra Reynolds who attempted the only complete edition of Finch's poems we have.
These texts, the Masterlist and the Annotated Chronology, combined with those printed by Reynolds in her edition, and the recent edition of the Wellesley manuscript by McGovern and Hinnant, provide the student with all the poetry and primary information we have about the poetry that Anne Finch wrote.
