Summary #5: Googling Tips

Since 1998, popular search engine Google has held a niche in many Internet user's utility belt. Now over a decade later, what started out as the whimsical Google! is now a lengthy Internet franchise.

According Sreetips, there is more to Google searching than meets the eye. While the common practice is to casually dump a string of words into the search query, Sree recommends a different Google search procedure.

First and foremost, Sree recommends heading to Mozilla and downloading its popular Firefox browsing tool. Not only is Firefox an alternative to Microsoft's Internet Explorer, but Firefox additionally boasts a Googlebar extension, or an added Google search box located directly within the top toolbar of the Firefox browser. This comes standard.

Another tip is to add Google and its search capabilities to your own computer through Google Desktop. According to Sree, this service is a much stronger alternative to what the Windows operating system already provides.

But perhaps the mightiest tips of them all are recommendations for Google's many (and always growing) services. These include, but are not limited to: Google News, Google Maps, and of course, Gmail.

Notably, the article by Sree was written 2 years ago, and therefore leaves out several of the Google advances made since then.

Here's another handy list:

 • Google Docs
 • Google Books

What Google will probably always teach is that when it comes to the Internet, nothing stays the same for long. Technology always advances in mile-long leaps and bounds, and the story of Google is no different.

Today, it's hard to imagine that Google was once the underdog to other search engines such as Yahoo! and Lycos.
