Instructional Technology Design and Development (IDD)

George Mason University

Conceptual framework:

I believe Instructional design program contains three main concepts:
Instructional technology strategies, Educational theories and pedagogical models, and Design and web authoring  tools.

Three sections of IDD

The first two sections of IDD, Instructional technology strategies and Educational theories and pedagogical models, are very connected together to serve the main purpose of the program which is combining recent educational theories and pedagogical models with the most interactive technology in design.  The reason of connecting the two sections together like it appears in the graph is that there are several classes serving both sections of instructional strategies and educational theories such as EDIT 704, EDIT 730 and EDIT 732.
The lower section which is completing the graph is a web-design and authoring tools section. This section contains several elective classes the offered to help potential instructional designer to present their work and final design using web-design, integrative, animations authoring tools programs such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Captivate, and Flash. etc..
Although these programs are not essential for to be an instructional designer, a good designer is able to manipulate computer programs to present his design ideas.  Also understanding these programs’ features could help designers in their thinking and developing the new design.
