- Abstract
While there are many different factors that can affect an individual's ear of crime, this paper will be focusing on how the local television news media affects an individual's perception on crime and their fear of it. A criminal case is given as an example of the kind of street level violence that can occur, while a police interview gives a police officers side of what law enforcement deals with on a day to day basis with street level crime. There is also an empirical research study conducted to test a local universities classroom of students on their fear of crime and the relation it has to the local television news media.
