Graduate assistantships consist of 10 or 20 hours of employment per week for a 10-month period (August 16-May 15). Students holding graduate assistantships may be eligible for a waiver of all or part of their tuition at the in-state rate. Assignment of teaching assistantships is based on the needs of the department, the skills of the student, and the number of assistantships available. A student holding an assistantship must be in degree status and, for a 10-hour assistantship, must take at least six (6) hours of graduate credit each semester.
Although MA students are eligible for teaching assistantships, Ph.D. students are given priority. See the Teaching Assistantship Coordinator for a list of TA positions with their responsibilities and qualifications.
Research Assistantships are controlled by individual faculty who has secured funding from the University or outside sources. Students interested in research assistantships are responsible for making contact with faculty.
