Edit Your Files

You can edit your files directly on the server if you know how to write HTML:

• log in using telnet or SSH
• type pico filename
• you will see the HTML code in the terminal window.
• edit the code using the Unix program pico
• When you're done, hit Control-X and then Y to save your changes
• When prompted for the file name, just press Enter to use the old filename and overwrite the file.

While pico and other Unix text editors are fine for making last minute changes (great for fixing a quick typo at the last minute), it is rather difficult to add links and images using these tools, since they require that you edit the code directly. If you are comfortable doing so, please do. But many prefer to edit pages in a graphic HTML editor and upload the changes.

To edit a file in KompoZer, open your local copy of the file (from your flash drive).

Once you have made your changes, Save the page using the same filename, and upload it to the server.

Remember, you are editing local files and uploading them. The changes will not appear online until the file is uploaded. Often, the page needs to be refreshed before the changes will register.

If you get errors, check for common problems and solutions.
