The research paper builds on the question asked in the short essay (what careers or professions have recently become obsolete?), but asks you to predict the future: What careers or professions may become obsolete in the next 25 years? Why? What technological, cultural, and/or economic shifts will lead to this obsolescence?
Because predicting the future is much more difficult than explaining the past, research will be required for this essay. You should examine articles from business journals, newspapers, online databases, and the like.
The research paper should be approximately 10 pages, with a works cited page including 6-12 sources. Most of your sources should be articles from the GMU databases. Do not rely too heavily on books (book publishing may be one of the professions becoming obsolete).
