In chapter 3 of Here Comes Everybody, Clay Shirky explains the end of the scribal profession. In this essay, I want you you consider what businesses, business models, careers, or professions have become obsolete in the past 25-50 years? Chose one and explain:
Why? What technological, cultural, and/or economic shifts lead to this obsolescence? Was it foreseen by the members of the field, or by anyone? Some possibilities for consideration (although I expect you to come up with better examples of your own):
The essay should be 3- 5 pages, double-spaced. This is not a research paper; however, if you do use outside sources (including online sources) you will need to cite them using informal citations (URLs, for example).
