In-Class Exercises: Occasional practice exericises on various skills such as summary, sentence structure, grammar. Various dates (in class). Value: 5%

Customer Letter: Practice writing a response to a difficult customer. Due June 16. Value: 10%

Summary: Summarize a section from the Poundstone text in under 200 words. This assignment is harder than it looks. Due June 23. Value: 10%

Research Assignment: Locate five full text articles in the GMU library or through the GMU library databases. Due June 28. Value: 5%

Instructional Essay: Write a set set of detailed instructions on a technical topic for a non-technical reader. Due July 7. Value: 15%

Research Proposal: Describe your research project, including topic, audience, purpose, and possible sources. Due July 12. Value: 5%

Annotated Bibliography: Evaluate five sources according criteria such as currency, authority, bias, and logic. Due July 19. Value: 15%

Peer Review: Write a constructive critique of a classmate's draft. You will graded on the review you give, not on the one you recieve. Due July 21 (in class). Value: 10%

Research Essay: The final project for the course is a 10-12 page research essay on a topic of your choosing (with approval). Due July 26. Value: 25%
