Initial Position Essay
I don't assume that the members of this class are familiar with Darwin or evolutionary theory, but I do assume that everyone knows something about the man and his work. This essay is designed to let me know what you already know; it also gives you a chance to explain and explore your own assumptions about the topic.
Write a short (3 page, double-spaced) essay explaining what you know about evolutionary theory and Charles Darwin. What is the theory? What are its claims? Why was it controversial then (1860s)? Why would it be controversial now?
You should also consider how evolutionary models apply to your field of study.
