Peer Review #2 (Final Essay)
I will not collect drafts, but I will collect (and grade) the peer reviews when I collect the final essays.
The purpose of a peer review is constructive criticism; such criticism requires close reading and thoughtful comments. Try to give comments you would find useful.
To begin, exchange drafts with a classmate. Read the draft completely. Then read the list of questions. Reread the draft, marking topic sentences, specific examples, and problem areas. Then respond to the following questions:
- What specific performance is the subject of Part 1?
- Part 1 asks for the style and instrumentation. Are these details clear?
- What is the author's personal view of the music? Is this view supported
by details? If no, what kinds of details are needed?
If yes, what details are particularly helpful?
- Part 2 asks for an analysis if a jazz CD. What artist and what CD was
chosen?
- What are the artist's influences and contributions?
- In the analysis of the individual song, are details given to illustrate
the form, arrangement, rhythmic devices, tone quality, expressive devices,
dramatic devices, and material?
Which of these areas needs more detail?
Which details did you find especially helpful?
- Make note of any details in the body of the essay which you feel are
too vague or too general (some generalities will be necessary in the
conclusion, but they should be supported by specific details).
