Literature? Is interactive fiction literature? Literature is a piece of art and interactive fiction is indeed one. There is not much character development like a normal book, but it is plot driven. These fictions are open ended and have several ways to get to the conclusion. So there is an introduction, plot, theme, and conclusion, but does that make it a literature? On a degree, yes it does. It has the main points, but what about the other things it is missing? Like character development or the detailed surroundings instead of short lines that tells the players where they are? I think that "Glass," while it is a piece of art, it is not considered a literature. It is short and missing a lot of other components to be considered as a literature. This does not mean that other interactive fictions are not literature. A more suitable question, instead of if its literature, is what level the piece of literature it is. Glass is literature to a level, but not on the same levels as novels or plays. |
