Youtube is one of the most popular examples of video on the Internet. When Youtube was first founded in February, 2005, a user could find many pirated TV episodes on the site. The founders were put under scrutiny for this, and attempts were made to erase all copyrighted material, but because of the immense number of videos being posted by users this task was very difficult for the company to accomplish. Youtube would erase videos that displayed copyrighted material, but sometimes it would take them weeks to find a specific copyrighted video, and they could also do nothing to stop users from posting the video again the next day.
Ever since Google bought Youtube in October of 2006, there was a major overhaul of copyrighted material from the servers. Finding film or TV clips was almost impossible due to the new management, and this remains true to this day. Youtube now is no longer a very large supplier of pirated TV episodes; however, it is worth mentioning first because it was one of the first sites to be used for such a reason. Even though Youtube now is strictly against showing copyrighted videos, some can still be found. I.e. the picture below shows a popular cartoon that is copyrighted by CartoonNetwork. This episode and many others of the series can be viewed on Youtube for the time being. Don't believe me? Just click the picture to find out.
