Exploring Adventure

Adventure takes place in a single textual box with a black background and green text. At the top of the box the location of the user, the number of moves the user has done, and the user’s score are all listed. You control the game by typing in commands in an input text line and then clicking the button next to it that says “Do it”.

The simple commands such as north, south, east, west, up, and down are all obvious enough. There are other less obvious commands though such as: enter, exit, take, light, and throw. Not only are these commands hard to realize, but the user must also use combinations of the commands to interact with the game. Combinations such as “throw the knife at the dwarf” or “unlock grate using keys” are necessary to progress in the game.

The structure of the storyworld is very simple. The game tells you where you are and what is in your immediate vicinity. Through my adventure in the game I encountered a long path, a stream, an endless cavern, and a twisting maze. The game simply puts up the information in the textual box, and the reader is free to picture the area however he wishes.
