Choices

The first thing the reader sees when they get to Firefly is the use of new media. A small video is shown of words and pictures flying forward, the words eventually read, "A tale told in 180 degrees of separation". The reader is then shown a link that, if clicked, brings them into the interactive part of the poem.
The reader is shown a screen which contains a five line poem. The interesting part of this poem is that each line of the poem can be clicked, and then changes to a new line. Even with the changing lines the poem always maintains the right grammar functions. By clicking each line the reader is able to change through six different t options available for each line. There are a total of six different interactive pages, each with five lines and the same number of options per line, and a final non-interactive concluding page. This ability to change the way the poem is constructed brings the reader into a new level of interaction with the poems. Instead of simply sitting there and reading what the author has written, the reader is actively engaged with making decisions about the very words of the poem. The reader also has the choice of what lines work best together for them, and once they feel they have done enough with the page they can move on to the next page with all new lines and new choices. The power the author gives the reader completely incorporates the reader into the very work they are reading. The new tools hypertext gives the author allows the author to incorporate the reader into a work like never before, and like Firefly, can go so far to make them a co-author.
