Looking at Larsen’s poem on a more literary level, the language of the poem is very dark and depressing. She fills the many different lines with phrases such as, “under my skull”, “into flickering shadows”, and “Silence between us occupies.” These lines, and the many more like them found in the poem, are meant to express to the reader dark or depressing mood. But because of the capabilities of hypertext, Larsen is also allowed to add backgrounds to every screen to further the mood for the reader. Looking at the backgrounds of the pages, they are centered on an old brick memorial from the 1950’s in the woods. The images are dark, and the green fog that covers them adds a mysterious entity to the poem. Larsen’s use of her poems language and color scheme all make sure the reader feels the mood being expressed very vividly.
