My Experience
At End Of Road
You are standing at the end of a road before a small brick building. Around you
is a forest. A small stream flows out of the building and down a gully.
This is how my journey began in the world of Adventure. It is the same beginning for every person who decides to partake in this piece of interactive fiction. For me finding the right commands to use was very difficult. Although discovering the commands is a tedious process of trial and error, it also adds a certain entertaining element to the experience. For me, each new scenario for a new command was like trying to solve a puzzle. Once I realized to string together the right words or discovered a new command, the ability to advance in the game and storyline was very rewarding.
The engaging nature of the command structure makes the reader take a more specified interest in the story. Every time I entered a new area or when a message would appear I would make sure to take care to read every word very carefully since each word can later lead to a command I would type in. The combination of story line with forced user commands makes the user take even greater care in reading the text, and with this Adventure does what many boring books and novels are unable to do.
