The Japanese word gongyo literally means assiduous practice. Generally speaking it means to recite Buddhist sutras in front of an object of worship. In the practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism it means chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, and reciting parts of the second chapter Hoben and the sixteenth chaper Juryof the Lotus Sutra in front of the Gohonzon. This is the fundamental practice, which is performed morning and evening.

BLR Cover

The annual Buddhist Learning Review is an opportunity for members to confirm and deepen their understanding of Nichiren Buddhism. It is held every October, ideally at district meeting locations, and designed to be an enjoyable activity that encourages free and open conversations on specified study topics.

The Review is intended as a self-assessment tool for each individual to gauge his or her progress in Buddhist learning. It is meant to be a joyful learning experience, not something to get stressed out about.

Participating in the review provides an opportunity for those who have read and studied the material to gauge their progress in Buddhist learning. For those who have not had the chance to read or study the material, it is an opportunity to learn from and discuss Nichiren Buddhism with others. Most of all, the Review serves as a chance to have fun in getting together with our friends in faith and talking about Nichiren Buddhism.
