Let's Have a Byte Home About Courses Hobbies Misc Contact

overview

As I have mentioned I am working on expanding certain sections. In my previous version of the site I devoted most of this area to Origami. I do however, have other hobbies including: cooking, paper engineering, and polymer clay work. I plan on having sections for each with tips and tricks that I have learned by experimentation or through serendipitous discovery. I plan on having recipes, tutorials, and examples of my own designs posted here in the future.

Origami

Origami is the ancient art of folding paper into a variety of shapes. Origami for the most part has remained unchanged for hundreds of years, until recently. In the 1970's there has been a major change in origami with the advent new folding techniques and uses of mathematics in the art. During this time period, there was research that was done to see what type's of folds could be done (geometric constructions, turns out origami is more powerful than straight-edge and compass constructions), and how to create new kinds of folds (angle trisection). All of which opened up a whole new area of design to folders. In the past it wasn't unusual for folders to cut paper to achieve extra limbs (flaps) in a model. But now, with these new techniques the possibilities are endless and a model isn't considered to be "pure" origami unless the model was folded from a square with no cuts. In fact, it is possible to fold a 100 foot centipede out of a square sheet of paper (Robert J. Lang).
