Network Neutrality--A Guiding Principle Mathew Honan reports, "The idea that all Internet traffic should be treated equally is known as Network Neutrality." To date, much of the argument is over whether service providers can favor Internet destinations by bringing them to the top of a search page, or helping to load the page faster than others. The Internet should we a free forum for everyone to participate in, not a capitalist tool for businesses to use to conquer their competition. Network Providers should be required to adhere by the principles set forth by Net Neutrality and an open and free Internet. Bernie Sanders, inventor of the World Wide Web, reports, "The neutral communications medium is essential to our society. It is the basis of a fair competitive market economy. It is the basis of democracy, by which a community should decide what to do. It is the basis of science, by which humankind should decide what is true. Let us protect the neutrality of the net."It is very important for the public to call on Congress to set up rules governed by Net Neutrality and ensure that the Federal Trade Commission, (FCC), enforces these rules.
