Personal Page

Here you'll find information on my hobbies and interests, perhaps even my personality.

This is based on a "how well do you know me" survey...enjoy!

Name as it appears on your birth certificate?

Carylynn Frieda Kemp (FYI, I was named after my German grandmother)

Nicknames?

The Gimp, Gimpy, Kemplet

Family?

Mom, Dad, and I at our house in Birmingham, October, 2000. My father passed away Summer 2003.

My brother, Chris, and I at our family reunion on Tybee Island, September 2001.

My Mom and I playing in Kauai gardens, August 2004

Pets?

Not at the moment - but as soon as I have to time and space to care for one, I want a dog...I'm thinking a Schoodle or a Sorkie.

Here's a picture of the dog we had growing up...his name was Jatszi, a Hungarian sheep dog.

Do you see the glass half empty, or half full?

95% of the time, half full.

I think that with God in control, every event, even the worst ones, has a positive purpose. God can bring life to molten rock. There's nothing He can't do...including growing beautiful flowers out of lava rock (picture taken in HI, August 2004)

Most important value?

A tough question, but I think I have to vote for humility, because this world tempts us, in so many ways, to be self-serving and self-focused.

Eye color?

I never know...they change with the season. I usually say Hazel because I have no idea what color hazel really is.

Hair color?

Used to be strawberry blonde. As I get older, it gets darker. Last year, I managed to turn it shades of yellow, orange, and fire engine red with a box of off-the-sheft hair dye. The day before a job interview.

Favorite color?

Green - any shade!

Favorite time of year:

Summer! Don't tell me "It get's too hot in DC" ...

Any city in which you still have to wear hats and coats for a Cherry Blossom Festival is too cold for me! (picture taken Spring 2001)
Digging my car out of snowbanks is NOT my idea of fun, either! (picture taken Spring 2002)

Been in a car accident?

No, unless you count the time I neglected to close my hood all the way and it flew up and smashed my windshield.

When was your last hospital visit?

August 2003, on a little island called Spetses in Greece. I was bicyling, looking at a beautiful beach rather than the slippery, deserted, gravel road that I was on, and looked up to find that I was about to bike off of the cliff. So I ditched the bike and took a beating on the rocks. By the grace of God, a couple in a golf cart came down the road a few minutes later, and drove me 1.5 hours to the nearest hospital. Through this experience, I learned that the Greek people extremely gentle, kind, and caring!

A few other warning signs I've ignored...

Favorite picture?

Do you know this man? I took this picture at Mardi Gras 1999; It's the funniest picture I've ever taken. Notice: 1) he's dressed like a rabbit; 2) he's wearing roller blades; 3) his dog kept nosing him trying to get him up 4) he's holding balloons 5) his drink is sitting on the wall

Favorite movie?

This question is unfair unless broken down into categories: Comedy - Happy Gilmore; Girly - My Best Friend's Wedding; Drama - Sneakers (that's as hard-core as I get; serious movies and horror films just stress me out); from elementary school - Goonies

Holiday?

Christmas! Although I need to move to Australia so that I can enjoy the warm weather along with the holiday season.

Sport?

Running - Cross-country and track in college, and marathoning, these days.

Our 4 x 800 team broke the school record at the very end of my senior year. This had nothing to do with my talent and everything to do with my teammates, and the record was quickly re-broken the following year, so my fame was short-lived.. Thanks Coach Owens, Natalie, Aubrey, and Jackie!

My best friend from Birmingham, Elizabeth, and I ran the Boston Marathon in 2003. Both of us were terribly injured and have vowed to go back and give the course full justice!

Research? (OK, I added this question just so I could include this picture too)

ERP research at the University of Florida. This is my REU friend and roommate Becca (what a great sport!)

Place on earth?

Mt. Rainier National Park. This picture is taken on the way up to Camp Muir.
