A Documentary History

Links

This page will contain links to other sites relating to the War of 1812 and the Chesapeake Bay flotilla in order to offer the viewer additional resources beyond the textual dimension provided in this site. The following is a sample of such sites.
Since 1978 grants from Calvert County, the state of Maryland, and the Department of Defense have supported salvage attempts of two flotilla gunboats scuttled in St. Leonard’s Creek, Maryland.
The National Park Service’s American Battlefield Protection Program is mandated to compile a list of battles, occupations, withdrawals, evacuations, and other military actions of British and American forces during the War of 1812. The St. Leonard’s Creek Survey is cited here.
Congress selected the National Park Service to evaluate the feasibility and desirability of designating as a national trail the routes used by the British and Americans during the Chesapeake campaign of the War of 1812. The NPS has provided online its Star-Spangled Banner National Historic Trail Study detailing the history, background, integrity, and national significance of the proposed trail. A trail designation would provide “opportunities for resource protection, active and passive interpretation, and public enjoyment.”
