| I took piano lessons for a number of years when I was young. Countless minutes and hours with this image in front of me had to have some sort of impact, I suppose. Perhaps this is how checkers got so 'hot'. I always related more to the black keys (the darker notes) also known as minors. The majors had more of a 'positive' sound, a sound more complete, enclosed. The minors were open-ended, sad, unfinished. I liked the darker sound. Many of my compositions were centered upon these unfinished chords.
My family influenced me greatly with music. My father played the flute and brass at home. My mother the piano. My brother the violin. Each with their own specific tastes in popular music, whether it was classical, jazz, orchestral, bossa nova, or heavy metal, I gained an appreciation for fusing various musical art forms which later adapted my taste toward such genres as acid jazz, progressive house, latin and neo-soul. These keys were the keys to both my passion for music and my connection to family. Christopher de la Torre ©2005 |
