Mystory Gregory Ulmer defines the "popcycle" as "the ensemble of discourses into which members of a society are "interpellated". (Ulmer, Internet Invention, p. 24) He separates the popcycle into four categories: FAMILY, ENTERTAINMENT, SCHOOL and DISCIPLINE. I have attempted in my mystory to create pages that explore each of those four elements of my own experiences and interests. Ulmer's theory, symbolized by his slogan "Problems B Us," is that by using the popcycle as a allegorical device, searching for relationships and patterns within and among the various categories, we can effectively triangulate a solution to the complex personal map of who we are. Once we have become accomplished at doing so, the same technique can be used to solve more comprehensive, intrapersonal and societal problems. What follows is my own exploration of the themes and links among the categories of my own personal experience with Ulmer's popcycle, compiled as a mystory. You may use the links on the left as a site map, or you may use the links themselves to find the connections from one to the next. I believe the latter, hypertextual method is a closer approximation to Ulmer's notion of how we may triangulate our way to solutions.
"I don't think of the past. The only thing that matters is the everlasting present." - W. Somerset Maugham
