At first glance Colossal Cave is another bad text based game. First impressions tend to be true. This game sucks. However it is not a game, it is an interactive fiction. It is a story where the reader chooses where the main character (you) goes and what he interacts with. Obviously stories are literature, but being throw into an interactive story and given the role of author ourselves, does that make our actions and the story itself worthy of literature status? The affect of time, place, and literal space in the game cause the game to be literature of the time within the limits of the reader/author having an open mind.

Disclaimer: I played Colossal Cave as I would any game. I played it as a game because in my eyes it is a game. Being a gamer doesn't help your mentality when you play something like this. It's frustrating! No jumping, no sword fighting, no exploding barrels, and especially no cheat codes. XYZZY are the only magic words I came across in my grueling 3 hours play of this game and they did nothing for me.
Let's start with the theory of time!
